Northland is New Zealand's most northerly agricultural region and home to a growing avocado industry, kiwifruit orchards, and subtropical crops. Key Northland Crops and Risks

Avocados: Wind is the biggest risk for Northland avocado growers. Avocado trees have shallow root systems and large canopies that are easily damaged by wind, causing significant fruit drop. Cyclonic winds can strip an entire season's crop from the trees.

Kiwifruit: Northland grows both Green and Gold kiwifruit, with risks similar to the Bay of Plenty — hail, wind, and cyclone damage are the primary concerns.
